The GNЯU Foyer / Joining Us
Last post by Firebomb - Dec 22, 2023, 05:31 PM
Whether you're looking to participate in a community willing to discuss various things about gaming or nerding, or just want to read what we've shared thus far, come on in, the water is fine!

Joining the Gaming Nerds Я Us community is easy enough - just sign up for an account! Considering the reality of the internet, however, this takes just a little bit of effort. For starters, I have installed several incredibly stupid questions that one must answer to join the forum, which has stemmed the ceaseless tide of automated ad pushers - for the most part.

Apparently robots are great at proving they're not robots, but they can't answer insipid questions about colors or numbers. That may not hold up once criminal enterprises start brute forcing things with spambots backed by LLM technology, but we live in interesting times as they say. The arms race continues, of course, but for the moment I believe these countermeasures should suffice.

After you've made an account, we just need to mark you as a human (or whatever) and then you can contribute as much or as little as you like. You can post here to showcase your sapience, and we'll then clear you to post elsewhere as well. This is the other half of our spam prevention, and it may be more annoying than joining most other forums, but I assure you that you'll thank me later.

It should go without saying, but since we're attempting to foster a community on the Gaming Nerds Я Us site, we insist on a few basic rules if you wish to participate. In other words, whatever you think your 'rights' are concerning whatever you want to say simply do not apply. This is not a government, much less your government - it's a forum. One whose maintenance is paid for with our own money.

For one thing, keep your notions about politics and religion to yourself. If you need to go on about these things, save it for your Facebook feed. Or your weird buddies on Gab, or whatever. Nobody wants to hear it, because it's everywhere else.

Secondly, treat others with respect. If you don't like what someone's saying, attack their ideas, not their person. In other words, if all you can do when disagreeing with someone is mock their forum avatar, maybe the problem is with you and not them.

Third, we don't care about profanity in and of itself, as we're all ostensibly adults here. However, we draw the line at disparaging terms, because Gaming Nerds Я Us does not discriminate. Bigotry in any form will not be tolerated, full stop.

So what will we do to enforce such policies? Whatever we darn well feel like, ranging from replacing your offensive words with something openly mocking you, to outright deleting your posts and account. In other words, play nice with us when you're in our house, or you'll be shown the door. We don't care wich you choose, but you don't get to have it both ways, sorry.

The GNЯU Foyer / Welcome to Gaming Nerds Я Us!
Last post by Firebomb - Dec 22, 2023, 05:18 PM
Gaming Nerds Я Us has been online in one form or another for a few decades, now. Sure, technical hurdles have taken the site down for a while here and there, but Gaming Nerds Я Us is back (yet) again! But what is Gaming Nerds Я Us, you ask? As the name might indicate, Gaming Nerds Я Us is a simple community for gamers and nerds to talk about various things they like.

While antisocial media wants to take the place of communities like Gaming Nerds Я Us, it would appear that the other shoe has dropped. As folks become less and less inclined to share their data with mercurial services that might delete their efforts on a whim, it behooves me to restore Gaming Nerds Я Us to a working state, as it has been wrecked since GoDaddy broke it last time around.

As the unexpected steward of Gaming Nerds Я Us, I'm still working out some of the kinks in this process, but it appears the forum is functional anew. So if you'd like somewhere to discuss things related to gaming, nerdery, or perhaps both, feel free to join us in our general celebration of... whatever it is that gets you going. And even better, there's no wall of ads here to get in your way!
